With every passing issue of the Tidings, one can hear the voice of the synod (the Los Angeles one, that is) getting louder and louder, and it’s a decidedly different voice than the one found in the Second Vatican Council’s Lumen Gentium or the recent Synod of Bishops in Rome. The talking points are crystallizing, capitalizing on the sexual abuse crisis and the compromised leadership of the Cardinal. When I read these articles, I’m always looking for the subtext.
